Introduction

The GWRRA Rider Education Program (REP) is intended to make the motorcycle environment safer by reducing injuries
and fatalities and increasing motorcyclist skills and awareness.  The REP does not propose to have all the answers.  However,
our close-working relationship with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF), as well as additional GWRRA programs and
studies, has provided a wealth of information for use in establishing a comprehensive Rider Education Program.  Through
                                    Commitment, Education
and Application, we can reduce our accident rate significantly. Listed below are several benefits of
the GWRRA Rider Education Program at the Chapter level:

 Increased rider knowledge

 Increased rider safety skills

 Prevention of accidents

 Reduced injuries

 Reduced fatalities

Improved general public image of motorcyclists

 Enhanced enjoyment of motorcycle riding

The motorcycle community is already realizing many positive benefits from the GWRRA Rider Education Program.  Through the
efforts of the Rider Education Officers and participation of the membership and others, we will reach our goal of establishing the
                                safest motorcycle environment possible.

What is the GWRRA Rider Education Program?

LEVEL 1 - SAFETY BY COMMITMENT - Safe Rider/Co-Rider

The purpose of the Rider Ed program is to get Wingers committed to practicing safe riding. Level 1 is exactly that, YOUR commitment to being a safe rider or co-rider... no other requirements. The fee is a one-time cost of $6 plus $2 to cover a Mileage pin, which are in increments of 5,000 miles. In other words, if you want to show your commitment and you've already ridden 50,000 miles, for $8 each you will receive a Safe Miles Patch, a Rider (or Co-Rider rocker) and a "50,000 Miles" pin. Another $8 is required for the co-rider to be registered.

LEVEL 2 - SAFETY BY EDUCATION - Tour Rider/Co-Rider Education

Continuing the theme of Education, this Level requires that you are a Level 1 Rider, you have your MC License endorsement, and you've taken an Approved Rider Course within the last two years. This fee is $5 per participant per year. When renewing, add $2 for each year pin.

LEVEL 3 - SAFETY BY PREPAREDNESS - Certified Tour Rider/Co-Rider

This level requires that you are already enrolled in Levels 1 and 2, that you have taken a CPR/First Aid course, and are continuing with Approved Rider courses (Basic or ERC). You should also have a First Aid kit on your bike. For a yearly fee of $4 per participant, you will receive the Certified Tour Rider (Co-Rider) patch. When renewing, add $2 for each year pin.

LEVEL IV - MASTER TOUR RIDER

This is the highest level of commitment, demonstrated by possessing both First Aid and CPR certification and having a history of safe miles. The training and preparation for this level show that the Rider has a desire for accumulating the most knowledge for safe driving and for caring for his fellow riders. The levels beyond Master Tour Rider are as follows:

Senior Master

5 Years from date of reaching Level IV

Grand Master

10 Years from date of reaching Level IV

Life Grand Master

15 Years from date of reaching Level IV

No Zone Demonstration

This series of photos was taken at a No Zone demonstration at the 2003
Wisconsin District Rally. The purpose is to show Wingers exactly what a
trucker sees as they approach, follow, and pass his truck. Click on each picture to get a larger view.

Full view.  As you can see, there are seven bikes parked around this semi.
Two on the driver's right side, one on his left, and four in stagger
formation in 50 foot increments following the truck

Right and Left Side mirrors together.  The driver of this, like most big
rigs, can only see the bikes beside him in his convex mirrors. They don't
even show up in the regular mirrors. The four bikes behind are invisible to
him.

Conclusion: Just because you can see the truck doesn't mean the driver can
see you. As a common bumper sticker says: "If you can't see my mirrors, I
can't see you." And remember, you don't stand a chance in a conflict with
one of these big rigs. The guy with the biggest tires always wins.
